Tavira to Albufeira November 19th 2024

A superb day, with just enough of a difficulty factor and full with beauty. The night went relatively well despite my sleep being interrupted several times. Breakfast was great although delayed by administrative formalities with my booking of a boat apartment in Albufeira. I had to scan an ID because the company doesn’t have an employee on site and the government requires hoteliers to validate the identity of its guests. For some reason the scan was not running. The day before, I had wasted over an hour of my time with the online payment of a security deposit. There is no easy one, as they used to say.

After losing some time getting out of Tavira, ‘Organic maps’ invited me to go inland but Google maps suggested I go south. In the end, it was a very good idea because I cycled in the wetlands on nice paths shared with pedestrians. At one point the path was guiding to towards a beach so I took a left to follow small national roads connected by more small country roads. At a crossroads in Chelote I stopped at a small restaurant (restaurant Luz de Fogo) where I was treated to a real feast for 10 euros! I asked for change to leave a tip even though it is not obligatory in Portugal. The salaries are so pathetic that the waiters show solidarity with their fellow citizens. Since I’m an affluent tourist from their point of view, I think it’s okay to tip. 2 euros for a quarter of a liter of wine, mango juice, a starter of olives and bread, chicken with homemade piripiri sauce, rice, salad and fries is worth much more than 10 euros!

Voici le résumé de mon trajet avec Strava.

The last part of my trip was mainly on the n125 then small roads in the old town (often on foot) then several turns to arrive at the Albufeira marina. The room is a gem in terms of accommodation. It’s a mini floating house with all the comforts, shower, toilet, heat pump, fridge, oven, kitchen, BBQ in front and terrace! Without success, I took a very long walk to find a restaurant outside the tourist area. I ended up going back to the port and eating at an Italian restaurant.
