I arrived in Faro quite early so I had time to enjoy it with a short bike ride. In fact, two walks, one while waiting for my room to be ready and a second following the advice of my host. He directed me to a small road behind the railway which runs along the coast for several kilometers. The path follows the Parque Natural da Ria Formosa, a wetland made up of a labyrinth of canals, islands, swamps and sandbanks (See article on the Parque Natural da Ria Formosa). There are many salt mining areas and people collecting molluscs, water is everywhere and it is often difficult to see the boundary between salt water and fresh water. It makes you think of the Camargue and the riverside on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence.

For lunch I had a smoked salmon sandwich with avocado that I bought at the Copenhagen Coffee Lab where I had breakfast. For dinner, I had Iberian pork secret with a glass of house red wine at the P’tit Bistrot, a restaurant I discovered two years ago, during my first stay in Faro. The ‘secreto’ is in fact portions of pork that have some very tender meat and a generous layer of fat. To finish in style, I allowed myself a piece of apple pie with whipped cream and caramel. I just hope to do enough miles tomorrow to burn off all these calories…

Here is the summary of my bicycle ride around Faro following the suggestion of my host at the Sunlight House, a small Bed and Breakfast with a nice breakfast served on the roof terrasse.
